Message from John Massey, Chair of Duloe Ale & Cider Festival….
As you know our 17th Ale & Cider Festival was held on 7th September, and the first time ever it rained on us. And it really rained! Instead of sunshades, people brought gazebos for shelter, wore their wellies, and made sure the wet conditions didn’t spoil their fun. And I am delighted to say they definitely made the most of it and had a great time.
This year, we have been able to donate £9,600 to our chosen charities and local groups, which as am sure you agree is an incredible amount of money to raise in one day. Obviously that isn’t taking in to account the hours and months put in by the Committee, but they are delighted with the outcome from all their efforts. I am very proud of the commitment shown by the Committee and as always, amazed by the demand for tickets and by the generosity of our sponsors and supporters. The support received really does make a huge difference to what we can achieve year on year, so I want to say a huge heartfelt thank you!
The charities we have donated to are the Looe RNLI, the Mustard Tree and the Primrose Foundation, both of which are based in Derriford Hospital. The Look Good Feel Better and Spinal Muscular Atrophy charities, and to Duloe Recreation Ground, the Duloe Community Trust Fund and the Duloe village Christmas hampers. We also donated to the Liskeard and Looe Foodbank and on the day people brought items with them, and we collected a brilliant 161kg of food and other items. It is a real privilege to be able to financially contribute towards the work of these charities and groups and help them to deliver the vital services they provide for people living in South East Cornwall and beyond.
The festival has grown over the years and from the start the profits have gone to benefit others. The first event was held in November 2006 and raised £500. The following year it doubled to £1000, and from then the amount has steadily grown year on year. It shows what we can do when we come together – we can make a huge difference. See you in 2025!
